HALLOWEEN HISTORY

Like many other holidays, Halloween has evolved and change throughout history. Over 2000 years ago, the Celts believed that the night before the New Year (October 31) was a time when the living and the dead came together. More than a thousand years ago, the Christian church named November 1 All Saints Day (also called All Hallows). The night before All Hallows was named Hallows Eve. Later the name was changed to Halloween.

These days, Halloween is not usually considered a religious holiday. It is mainly a fun day for children. They dress up in costumes like ghosts or other evil creatures and they go “trick or treating” to the houses of neighbours, family and friends.

Como muchas otras vacaciones, Halloween ha evolucionado y  cambiado a lo largo de la historia. Hace unos 2000 años, los Celtas creían que la noche anterior al Nuevo Año (31 de octubre) era un momento en que la vida y la muerte caminaban juntas. Hace más de mil años, la Iglesia Cristiana proclamó el 1 de noviembre día de Todos los Santos. La noche anterior a Todos los Santos se llamaba Hallows Eve (víspera de Todos los Santos). Más tarde  el nombre cambió a Halloween.

Hoy en día, Halloween no es  considerada una fiesta religiosa. Es principalmente un día divertido para los niños. Se ponen disfraces de fantasmas u otras criaturas malignas y salen a las casas de vecinos, familia y amigos a pedir golosinas, “truco o trato”.
