SURF THE SCHOOL WAVE
A new school year and a new topic: SURFING.
This first week it’s about “Surfing and Hawaii”.
This week, 3-year-old kids were making nice Hawaiian bracelets for the entire educational
stage. All the children danced to Vaiana´s song “How Far I´ll go” with these bracelets.
They had a good time and had a lot of fun.
In Elementary Education we had different activities in order to get closer to the origin of surfing and its beginnings in Hawaii.
First and Second of Primary watched a video about the topic, and we learned and coloured new vocabulary. We painted a surfing board and surfed too. It was really cool.
In the Physical Education subject, we surfed different waves, using various materials. We practiced body balance on moving and fixed surfaces. You can see in the videos that we had a great time.
From the subject of Music and dance, we delved into the traditional Hawaiian dance, “The Hula” and performed a choreography. We also had fun with the song “Blue Hawaii” by Elvis Presley.
From arts&crafts, we worked with the “sailfish”, which inhabits the waters of Hawaii, taking advantage of the library theme. We researched and created wonderful “sailfish” for our marine corridor.
In Secondary Education, we have begun by exploring its origins. We have conducted a brief research study, focusing on Hawaii.
After reading about it and answering several questions, we moved on to the creative part and created posters that reflect our impressions of surfing and Hawaii.
